Bridging courses
p> To inspire and support students interested in studying science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the faculty offers workshops and programs from year 10 onwards.Bridging courses are available for those entering fields that require extra support in certain areas of maths, biology, chemistry, and physics.
To support students moving into the first year of their tertiary studies the Faculty of Science offers Bridging short courses for a number of subjects. These short course build conceptual understanding and skills sets to prepare you for first year.
Science Alliance
We have been organising public events and programs for high school and primary schools for years, promoting science through our many ambassadors, including Dr. Karl. Our programs include public lectures, HSC workshops, teacher seminars, and holiday camps, with the aim of making science exciting and accessible.
Learn more about Science AllianceSydney Institute of Agriculture
The Sydney Institute of Agriculture consolidates research from the University of Sydney to benefit the agriculture and food sector. Since 1910, the university has led in agricultural knowledge. Agribusiness presents significant growth opportunities for Australia, and our research team is addressing global challenges like sustainable food production and environmental management. As scrutiny of food and fibre production intensifies, innovations in digital technology are essential for a competitive and profitable agriculture sector, necessitating increased investment in research and development.
Alternative Protein Product Development – Fundamentals
This microcredential, the first of two, provides essential skills for producing alternative protein food products. Participants will learn about food protein chemistry, usage, characterisation, and functionality through lectures, tutorials, and practical workshops at the University of Sydney’s laboratories in Australian Technology Park.
Alternative Protein Product Development – Advanced
This micro credential is designed for professionals in the food manufacturing industry, providing essential skills for producing alternative protein food products.
Learn about consumer perceptions, processing techniques, protein quality, identify and develop sensory and texture in food production and consider variables required to develop a framework for techno-economic analysis. This course will demonstrate the various applications of alternative proteins in food product development and you will also have the opportunity to visit alternative protein food manufacturing sites.
By completing this micro-credential course, you will gain the skills necessary to develop new or improved high-quality products in the alternative protein field.
Sydney Precision Data Science Centre
We are a world-leading precision data discovery centre dedicated to empowering data-driven decision-making in health and well-being, food sciences, conservation, and biomedicine.
The Sydney Precision Data Science Centre strives to unlock the University’s collective research potential, pioneering groundbreaking discoveries through the power of data-intensive science. Our mission is to confront and unravel the complex challenges in biology, medicine, and global health. The Centre champions high-quality, transformative multidisciplinary research, acting as a vibrant hub for interdisciplinary scholars in data-intensive science.
We cultivate innovative, tailored analytical methodologies that are vital for knowledge discovery, seamlessly integrating diverse quantitative disciplines and research paradigms.
Data analysis for precision health
The scale and accessibility of health and medical data have reached unprecedented levels, creating a strong demand for your expertise in extracting meaningful insights. In just a day and a half, you will learn essential statistical skills for analysing and interpreting health and medical data. Key topics will include linear models, mixed-effect models, logistic regression, and survival analysis. You will also address common challenges and discover practical workarounds, enabling you to translate data into actionable insights.
Centre for Veterinary Education
The Veterinary school offers short professional development courses to veterinarians and their practice staff through the Continuing Centre of Veterinary Education (CVE).
Established in 1965, the CVE has been a leader in transforming the careers of veterinary professionals, keeping them at the forefront of their profession.
