Enhance cultural competence in your organisation with our self-paced online, research-based program. Delivered by University of Sydney’s National Centre for Cultural Competence (NCCC) these short courses are suitable for individuals, teams, and managers looking to improve their understanding of cultural competence and address bias and racism in the workplace and broader social contexts.
Cultural competence - Aboriginal Sydney
This course examines Aboriginal experiences of Sydney before and after colonisation, while exploring themes such as sovereignty, representation, identity, bias, and dominant historical narratives. Through self-reflection and critical engagement, participants will develop greater understanding of how histories, knowledge systems, and cultural perspectives shape contemporary Australia.
Confident conversations about race and racism
Racism remains one of the greatest scourges on society, here in Australia and globally. Yet, many of us are not confident in our abilities to recognise, understand, and take appropriate action against racism. This online course will increase your knowledge about race and racism. It will explore various themes and issues to increase understanding as well as provide practical tools to develop more confidence in engaging in conversations about race and racism.
Architecture - Practicing on Country
Gain understanding, awareness and work towards Country and First Nations specific criteria of the National Standard of Competency for Architects 2021 accreditation. As Architecture practitioners in the built environment, it is important to understand how practicing on Country requires reciprocity when working with Country, Communities and Cultures. Partnerships should aim to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes as key project outcomes. This learning experience places value on First Nations Knowledge as a vital contribution to project processes and outcomes. This short course is offered by the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning Open Studio and Architect’s Accreditation Council of Australia.
