Overview
Infrastructure investment can improve productivity and catalyse economic growth. The cost of infrastructure projects, however, can be substantial and funding these projects represents a significant challenge.
In this course, students explore the distinction between infrastructure financing and funding and the challenges in raising private finance. They are provided with an understanding of the principles of infrastructure finance and the use of special purpose vehicles and how to structure alternative financing plans.
Students learn how to develop approaches to procurement and tendering and understand issues associated with the commercial and financial structuring of Public Private Partnerships.
What you'll learn
In this microcredential, participants will:
- Apply the theoretical concepts of project finance to assess financial viability and bankability
- Develop financing plans including debt, equity and alternative financing sources including value capture
- Develop appropriate contractual and financing structures including special purpose vehicles and Public Private Partnerships for economic and social infrastructure projects
- Understand corporate finance methodologies to assess weighted average cost of capital using the Capital Asset Pricing Model and application to regulated infrastructure

Program Overview
The Infrastructure Financing microcredential equips learners with insights into the challenges of raising private finance, the use of special purpose vehicles, and the structuring of alternative financing models. The microcredential will also cover procurement strategies and the commercial and financial aspects of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
In this course, students explore the distinction between infrastructure financing and funding and the challenges in raising private finance. Students are provided with an understanding of the principles of infrastructure finance and the use of special purpose vehicles and how to structure alternative financing plans. Students learn how to develop approaches to procurement and tendering and understand issues associated with the commercial and financial structuring of Public Private Partnerships.
This course is aimed at industry professionals involved with the planning, assessment, structuring, financing and delivering complex infrastructure projects. Prospective participants may be working in government agencies, banks, institutional investors, financiers, contractors, operators, service providers with an involvement in infrastructure.
This microcredential is comprised of four modules, totalling 18 hours of face-to-face delivery:
- Module 1: Introduction to Project Finance and PPPs – 3 hours
- Module 2: Risk Allocation and Commercial Structuring – 6 hours
- Module 3: Financial Structuring – 3 hours
- Module 4: Evolution of Private Financing and PPPs – 6 hours
While there are no formal prerequisites to enrol in this course, participants are expected to have some familiarity with the infrastructure sector, but no previous knowledge of infrastructure financing is required.
